This week marks an important event in our lives...Chris and my 4th anniversary! This month we've also been together for 11 years! WOW! Since we've been married we've taken the day off and spent it together to regular things around the OKC area: grocery shopping at Target, cupcakes at Cuppies & Joe, dinner at fun places like Charleston's and Paseo Gril, browsing around Penn Square Mall, etc. This year we did much of the same, but had to break it into two days, since I get tired too easily now. And we actually didn't do much celebrating on our actual anniversary since I had parent teacher conferences. So instead, we spent an hour together at our favorite place, our couch, exchanged small gifts, card, and had a glass of chocolate milk.

The next day, Friday, I also had a half-day of parent teacher conferences, but we had the whole afternoon and evening together. We went on a bike ride to see all the beautiful leaves, stopped in at Campus Corner, and then came home before we headed to the city for some fun. Our first stop was at Cuppies & Joe, one of my very favorite places because it is just like it sounds, a cafe where they serve cupcakes and coffee, among many other delicious things. But this isn't the main reason I love it so much. I adore it because it is in an old bungalow nestled in the Paseo Arts District. The little house is beautiful - I could go there everyday! We then headed to the Classen Curve to visit one of my favorite stores to window shop, Anthropologie. I had been wanting to go ever since I heard we were getting one, but kept missing it when it was open. Then we went to our favorite mall to look around in more of our favorite shops, Pottery Barn, Fossil, GAP, and William's Sonoma. And our last stop was Whole Foods, for again mostly "window shopping", but also for a easy dinner from their delicious variety of buffets. It was a fun day, just for us! On Saturday, my parents had gotten us tickets to go see Mary Poppins at the Civic Center! We spent the morning and afternoon just hanging around Norman and our house before heading up to Lake Hefner for dinner. We ate at Hefner Grill, and one of the best meals we can remember. Calamari, tabasco caesar salad, crab cakes, crab bisque, garlic mashed potatoes, and asparagus...It was all so delicious! And then off to Mary Poppins we went! Chris loves this movie as a child, so he was particularly excited about seeing "Step in Time", and we both love all things Disney and had never seen a Broadway musical, so it was definitely something very special for us!
I always love spending time with Chris, but our weekends together are some of my favorite memories. Even if we are just doing simpler things around our house, I love the time we have together. And I am sure it will only get more amazing as we add little Valentases to our family! Hooray!
People I am thankful for this week:
5. Kendel Hogan - one of my new mommy and teacher friends at Norman High! She and I both started at NHS together, and I am so grateful for her friendship. She had her sweet baby boy in May, and her advice has been so helpful to me. I am hoping baby Cameron, Baby V, and me get to hang out everyday together next year!
6. Liz Hoggatt - a dear friend to me, who always knows when I need a kind word most, and Norman High Junior Class Sponsor together for 3 years now! Liz and I have grown closer each year with planning Prom, and I would not have had it any other way. She is always there to listen, and I love spending time with her!
7. Student B - Though I can't probably say her name on a public forum, this student has been a daily encouragement to me with her sweet smile, genuine desire to learn, and her thoughtful gifts. If we were the same age, she'd probably be one of my close friends.
8. Heather - Another one of my NHS friends! She and I also started at Norman High together, and she is due to have her baby any day now! We have been through a lot together, and I have really enjoyed eating lunch with everyday, and sharing our pregnancy stories. I will miss her while she's gone!
9. Shayna - A sweet friend who I would have NEVER gotten through my first year of teaching without her! She and I were on the English II team together (as were Liz and Kendel too), and now she is an administrator this year. I want to be like Shayna when I grow up! She is a phenomenal teacher and friend, and even through the most horrible year you could imagine for a person, she still remained positive, upbeat, and always has an encouraging smile to share with anyone. I simply just love Shayna!
10. Mom - My sweet Momma! I hope I can be more and more like her, especially as a mom. She is so kind and giving, and makes each holiday and birthday so special. She reminds me of my Grandma Re so much, and I can't wait for her to be a Mimi to my kids! We have so much fun together too, and I look forward to being able to spend more time with her in the next year!
11. Heather - Teacher and new mommy friend too! She is a special education teacher at Norman High, but our friendship started at OU with graduate classes together. I also had her as my first student teacher, and then she got hired at NHS. She and her husband had been waiting for a baby for so long, and they were finally able to have tiny Ellery Cate in August. She is such a cute momma, and I can have gotten such great advice from her about motherhood too. I am lucky to have so many wonderful new mommies to share this journey with!
Now onto the latest news with Baby V...
1.. Total weight gain: +14 lbs total. But one good thing is that I am still under the weight I was a year ago, and NOT pregnant! Gives me hope for what I can do after the baby comes...
2. Maternity clothes?: Yes! I am always looking for cute things, and God bless Chris, he bears with my trials and tribulations of maternity wear.
3. Stretch marks?: Nopey!
4. Sleep?: I was EXHAUSTED this week, probably due to the time change, but it felt good to go to sleep by 10 pm and get up by 7 am. Again, I think my body is prepping for baby
5. Best moment this week?: Spending time with Chris celebrating our 4th anniversary! I think we should spend 3 days together every year! :)
6. Miss anything?: Sleeping for a solid 6 hours and exercising again. For realz. And this has nothing to do with being pregnant, but I miss the sunlight already.
7. Movement?: Not sure. I know I am supposed to about this time, and if I lay really still at night, I can kind of feel little bubbles in my tummy, but not sure if that's it or not.
8. Food cravings?: Seafood this week, and cheese, and sweets, and anything that's not good for me!
9. Anything make you queasy or sick?: Nope!
10. Gender?: Still don't know but will one week from now!!! OMG! I am thinking it's a boy; Chris is thinking it's a girl.
11. Labor signs?: No
12. Symptoms?: I've noticed more people looking at me like, "Is she pregnant?", so that's good. I also think I had my first irrational crying moment today. We rearranged our bedroom, and it made me cry. I like the old way too, but we really needed to change it to prepare for many up and down times at night
13. Belly button in or out?: In
14. Wedding rings on or off?: On
15. Happy or moody most of the time?: Mostly happy this week, since I was so looking forward to this weekend, and also knowing that we will find out what this little bean is on FRIDAY!
16. Looking forward to most?: Our Gender Reveal/Fall Festival this weekend! We started this annual celebration of fall the year after we got married and first moved into our little house as a thank you to everyone who helped us in that first year of marriage, from our wedding day to moving and painting our home. We just feel such gratitude to our friends and family (and YOU!) for everything they have done for us. I guess you could say that we're "blessed". Tee hee!
