Waiting for Baby V: Nifty Nineteen Weeks!

This week marks an important event in our lives...Chris and my 4th anniversary! This month we've also been together for 11 years! WOW! Since we've been married we've taken the day off and spent it together to regular things around the OKC area: grocery shopping at Target, cupcakes at Cuppies & Joe, dinner at fun places like Charleston's and Paseo Gril, browsing around Penn Square Mall, etc. This year we did much of the same, but had to break it into two days, since I get tired too easily now. And we actually didn't do much celebrating on our actual anniversary since I had parent teacher conferences. So instead, we spent an hour together at our favorite place, our couch, exchanged small gifts, card, and had a glass of chocolate milk.

The next day, Friday, I also had a half-day of parent teacher conferences, but we had the whole afternoon and evening together. We went on a bike ride to see all the beautiful leaves, stopped in at Campus Corner, and then came home before we headed to the city for some fun. Our first stop was at Cuppies & Joe, one of my very favorite places because it is just like it sounds, a cafe where they serve cupcakes and coffee, among many other delicious things. But this isn't the main reason I love it so much. I adore it because it is in an old bungalow nestled in the Paseo Arts District. The little house is beautiful - I could go there everyday! We then headed to the Classen Curve to visit one of my favorite stores to window shop, Anthropologie. I had been wanting to go ever since I heard we were getting one, but kept missing it when it was open. Then we went to our favorite mall to look around in more of our favorite shops, Pottery Barn, Fossil, GAP, and William's Sonoma. And our last stop was Whole Foods, for again mostly "window shopping", but also for a easy dinner from their delicious variety of buffets. It was a fun day, just for us!

On Saturday, my parents had gotten us tickets to go see Mary Poppins at the Civic Center! We spent the morning and afternoon just hanging around Norman and our house before heading up to Lake Hefner for dinner. We ate at Hefner Grill, and one of the best meals we can remember. Calamari, tabasco caesar salad, crab cakes, crab bisque, garlic mashed potatoes, and asparagus...It was all so delicious! And then off to Mary Poppins we went! Chris loves this movie as a child, so he was particularly excited about seeing "Step in Time", and we both love all things Disney and had never seen a Broadway musical, so it was definitely something very special for us!

I always love spending time with Chris, but our weekends together are some of my favorite memories. Even if we are just doing simpler things around our house, I love the time we have together. And I am sure it will only get more amazing as we add little Valentases to our family! Hooray!

People I am thankful for this week:
5. Kendel Hogan - one of my new mommy and teacher friends at Norman High! She and I both started at NHS together, and I am so grateful for her friendship. She had her sweet baby boy in May, and her advice has been so helpful to me. I am hoping baby Cameron, Baby V, and me get to hang out everyday together next year!
6. Liz Hoggatt - a dear friend to me, who always knows when I need a kind word most, and Norman High Junior Class Sponsor together for 3 years now! Liz and I have grown closer each year with planning Prom, and I would not have had it any other way. She is always there to listen, and I love spending time with her!
7. Student B - Though I can't probably say her name on a public forum, this student has been a daily encouragement to me with her sweet smile, genuine desire to learn, and her thoughtful gifts. If we were the same age, she'd probably be one of my close friends.
8. Heather - Another one of my NHS friends! She and I also started at Norman High together, and she is due to have her baby any day now! We have been through a lot together, and I have really enjoyed eating lunch with everyday, and sharing our pregnancy stories. I will miss her while she's gone!
9. Shayna - A sweet friend who I would have NEVER gotten through my first year of teaching without her! She and I were on the English II team together (as were Liz and Kendel too), and now she is an administrator this year. I want to be like Shayna when I grow up! She is a phenomenal teacher and friend, and even through the most horrible year you could imagine for a person, she still remained positive, upbeat, and always has an encouraging smile to share with anyone. I simply just love Shayna!
10. Mom - My sweet Momma! I hope I can be more and more like her, especially as a mom. She is so kind and giving, and makes each holiday and birthday so special. She reminds me of my Grandma Re so much, and I can't wait for her to be a Mimi to my kids! We have so much fun together too, and I look forward to being able to spend more time with her in the next year!
11. Heather - Teacher and new mommy friend too! She is a special education teacher at Norman High, but our friendship started at OU with graduate classes together. I also had her as my first student teacher, and then she got hired at NHS. She and her husband had been waiting for a baby for so long, and they were finally able to have tiny Ellery Cate in August. She is such a cute momma, and I can have gotten such great advice from her about motherhood too. I am lucky to have so many wonderful new mommies to share this journey with!

Now onto the latest news with Baby V...
1.. Total weight gain: +14 lbs total. But one good thing is that I am still under the weight I was a year ago, and NOT pregnant! Gives me hope for what I can do after the baby comes...
2. Maternity clothes?: Yes! I am always looking for cute things, and God bless Chris, he bears with my trials and tribulations of maternity wear.
3. Stretch marks?: Nopey!
4. Sleep?: I was EXHAUSTED this week, probably due to the time change, but it felt good to go to sleep by 10 pm and get up by 7 am. Again, I think my body is prepping for baby
5. Best moment this week?: Spending time with Chris celebrating our 4th anniversary! I think we should spend 3 days together every year! :)
6. Miss anything?: Sleeping for a solid 6 hours and exercising again. For realz. And this has nothing to do with being pregnant, but I miss the sunlight already.
7. Movement?: Not sure. I know I am supposed to about this time, and if I lay really still at night, I can kind of feel little bubbles in my tummy, but not sure if that's it or not.
8. Food cravings?: Seafood this week, and cheese, and sweets, and anything that's not good for me!
9. Anything make you queasy or sick?: Nope!
10. Gender?: Still don't know but will one week from now!!! OMG! I am thinking it's a boy; Chris is thinking it's a girl.
11. Labor signs?: No
12. Symptoms?: I've noticed more people looking at me like, "Is she pregnant?", so that's good. I also think I had my first irrational crying moment today. We rearranged our bedroom, and it made me cry. I like the old way too, but we really needed to change it to prepare for many up and down times at night
13. Belly button in or out?: In
14. Wedding rings on or off?: On
15. Happy or moody most of the time?: Mostly happy this week, since I was so looking forward to this weekend, and also knowing that we will find out what this little bean is on FRIDAY!
16. Looking forward to most?: Our Gender Reveal/Fall Festival this weekend! We started this annual celebration of fall the year after we got married and first moved into our little house as a thank you to everyone who helped us in that first year of marriage, from our wedding day to moving and painting our home. We just feel such gratitude to our friends and family (and YOU!) for everything they have done for us. I guess you could say that we're "blessed". Tee hee!

Waiting for Baby V: Excitingly Eighteen Weeks

This post is going to be full of lists. For as long as I can remember, I've made lists. My old journals have lists, I have lists on random pieces of paper, and my mousepad at school is a notepad to make daily to do lists on. My phone notes app is has tons of lists: Christmas list, grocery list, list of to do's for the week, list of books to read, list of places to travel, list of this month's finances...You name it, and I've got the list! They have been a good friend to me (and sometimes my enemy), but the bottom line is: I love making lists! So several of my posts in the past have been lists, and so will this one. Three only, to be more specific. So here we go...

A few weeks ago, a good friend and fellow blogger of mine, Danielle Basset at Being Bassets, nominated me for the Liebster Award. As she described it on her blog, that it is for "up and coming bloggers that have less than 200 followers". I love reading her regular posts as she begins her new adventure of being a stay-at-home mommy. We met in college in the OU Marching Band, and immediately our friendship clicked. We loved the same things, and I loved her style. We got engaged to our sweet husbands within the same 6 months, so we made a plan that included our husbands being roommates, us being roommates, and most simply put, swapping places when we married a month a part. We both went into the teaching profession, but both have had the desire to be moms, and now I get to share in that journey with her too. Her friendship means so much to me, even though our paths do not always look exactly the same. Thank you for nominating me Danielle! Now let's see if I can think of 11 things about me, without reading hers at the same time.

1. I met my husband in high school marching band. We were drum majors together, and good friends, and then we fell in love. Our first date was "Monsters Inc." almost 11 years ago, and we've been married almost 4. I love our story, and couldn't imagine my life with anyone else.
2. We are expecting our first child in April 2013! I feel like I've waited all my life for this adventure, and I am ridiculously excited about it!
3. I am in my 5th year of teaching. I love what I teach and will miss the people I work with most all next year. I just hope I can keep plugged in to all the amazing things happening at Norman High!
4. We have a golden retriever, Lucy, and she is basically our child. She's named after Lucille Ball, someone I loved and watched regularly on "Nick at Nite" as a child. She is the sweetest dog, and I think will be a great "dog mom".
5. My favorite Christmas movie, and probably favorite movie of all, is "Elf" with Will Ferrel. It's not Christmastime until we watch it, and do so about 5 times each season. It's the first one and the last one we watch. I pretty much have it memorized.
6. My favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird, and I have gotten to teach it 4 times. I am sad that I won't get to be there with my kids this year as they read it, but I know they'll be better people for it.
7. I was in the Pride of Oklahoma for 6 years (I got my Masters too...So don't judge!!!), and was able to go to all 4 BCS Bowls: the Rose Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, the Orange Bowl, and the Fiesta Bowl. I also got to march in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Being in the Pride was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life.
8. I LOVE shopping for clothes. I have probably spent way too much money on clothes in my life thus far, which I'll have to scale back on next year. But I LOVE IT!
9. Living in an old house has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and is almost like a religion to me. It takes hard work, dedication, and a calling. I feel like I am preserving history and that it is my duty to do so. And it breaks my heart when I see old houses fall apart or are renovated to look modern.
10. If you haven't figure this out yet, I am also in LOVE with fall. The best time of the year by fall. The leaves, the cool air, marching band, pumpkin flavored things, boots and scarves, and all those delicious warm crock pot meals.
11. I miss my Grandma Re everyday. Much of who I am and much of what I do is because of her. She loved people, babies, fall, rootbeer, green, and shoe shopping. Just before she died, she was writing a poem out that she had memorize about friendship. Friends were so important to her, and they are to me too. The best compliment I could ever receive would be that they are reminded of her when they see me. That is my life's goal.

Now for Danielle's questions:
1. Why did you being blogging? A good teacher friend of mine, Heather Caram, suggested I start one. She knows me well and that I love to cook, craft, garden, and more. So I did! Thanks Heather!
2. What band/artist would be the soundtrack of your life? I think it would be the soundtrack from "UP!". There are happy moments and sad moments, but overall it is beautiful and it is all about friendship. I love it.
3. Favorite recipe? The one I make the most is pumpkin bread. It's not my #1 favorite, but other people love it!
4. Favorite place to be? At my house with Chris and Lucy
5. What is your must-have, carry everywhere with you item? Probably my iPhone. It has my lists, my camera, and almost everything, you know! :)
6. Where do you want to retire someday? Right here in Norman. In our big old house, where our many children and grandchildren like to come visit us!
7. What was you favorite childhood book? The Mouse and the Big Red Strawberry - My parents read it to me so much, I had it memorize by the age of 3. I loved it and still can remember most of the book!
8. Which country would you like to visit someday? I've been there before, but I'd love to go with Italy with Chris!
9. What is your Number 1 bucket-list item? Be a stay-at-home mom.
10. What or who inspires you the most? My husband, Chris. He is the most amazing person I know, and I learn so much from him everyday
11. Do you think being a mama has changed you or will change you and if so, how?

In this month of Thanksgiving, I am also trying to thank one person per day who have made an impact on me in some way. Here's who I'm grateful for so far:
1. Chris - my sweet sweet husband. Patient, kind, compassionate, generous, and the heart of a servant! I could write a whole post, or even book, about the reasons why I love him. So I will have to stop there for now!
2. Katie Lentz - a sweet Norman High teacher friend. She always goes out of her way to make me feel loved and special, so I hope that I can do that for her. She is an amazing teacher and friend!
3. Francesca Hunt - my best friend since I was just a few months old! Her parents are good friends with my dad, and have been since we were born. We spent our summers together in Kearney, and she is a friend that no matter how long we are apart, we can always pick up where we left off when we get back together again. I don't know who I would be or where I would be without her friendship!
4. Tom Valentas - my father-in-law. Chris is the man he is today because of him. By his example, Chris learned how to be an incredible husband, and I can't wait to see what he's learned by having Tom as his father. He is a good man, and will be an excellent grandpa!
Pregnant me:
1. Total weight gain: +12 lbs total still! Not gaining 4 lbs every week...WHEW!
2. Maternity clothes?: Yep! Maternity clothes are fun and stretchy, but just wish I could turn everything I see into cute maternity clothes.
3. Stretch marks?: No
4. Sleep?: I think my body is preparing for baby because I only sleep in 3 hour increments or so, then wake up, check the time, and then toss and turn some more. I can't sleep in like I used to on the weekends either!
5. Best moment this week?: Watching the leaves change colors all around Norman, and enjoying them with a bike ride with Chris. We got some beautiful pictures of them too! And on Friday, we heard the bean's heartbeat, and now the next appointment, we will find out what "it" is!
6. Miss anything?: Sleeping soundly through the night...
7. Movement?: None yet but I hear that 18 weeks is about the time you can start feeling those flutters. Excited about that!
8. Food cravings?: CANDY! Probably because of Halloween. And anything pumpkin, which is probably due to the season.
9. Anything make you queasy or sick?: Nope!
10. Gender?: I just can't wait to find out at this point! Tell me what you are Baby Valentas!
11. Labor signs?: No
12. Symptoms?: Wearing maternity clothes and weird sleeping patterns. And for the first time, a stranger notice my belly! Hooray!
13. Belly button in or out?: In
14. Wedding rings on or off?: On
15. Happy or moody most of the time?: Been pretty stressed these past two weeks with school stuff, but I am still feeling happy overall. I've had a few grumpy pregnant days, but hope those continue to be few and far between.
16. Looking forward to most?: Our 4th anniversary is this weekend, and I am looking forward to just hanging out with Chris next weekend. We get to spend the day together Friday, and then we're going on a fun date to dinner and the "Mary Poppins", thanks to my parents for our anniversary gift. AND we will probably get our new front and back doors installed this week too! OMG! :)

Waiting for Baby V: Spookily Seventeen Weeks!

This week my Dad came to visit from Nebraska, so we spent the weekend doing our favorite things and showing Dad around Norman. I hadn't seen him since we found out that we were pregnant, and he hasn't been to Norman for 2 1/2 years, so we have been anxiously awaiting his trip for quite some time. We ate dinner at Charleston's, shopped at the mall and the pumpkin tent, went to pre-game festivities at OU and watched the Pride, ate breakfast at Ozzie's, relaxed at our house, hung out with Lucy, and finished some house projects. It was a wonderful weekend with my Dad and doing all things fall! Just a few more weeks of this lovely weather and scenery...I hope to be able to enjoy the last bits of it! Here are a few pictures from our wonderful weekend:

And here is the news on Baby V:

1. Total weight gain: +12 lbs total now... +1 this week
2. Maternity clothes?: Yes siree! I ordered some things from Old Navy this week, and I can't wait to get them!
3. Stretch marks?: No! Using Bio Oil, and hope it helps
4. Sleep?: I was really really tired this week, so I guess I've been tossing and turning more than I thought, but little to no back pain! YAY!
5. Best moment this week?: Showing my Dad our house and our lives here in Norman. This week a lot more people have noticed my "baby bump" too, which is exciting!
6. Miss anything?: Having the energy to just about anything, being able to stay up late, and lately, being able to sleep in!
7. Movement?: Nope!
8. Food cravings?: Still sweets and warm comfort food, but that's what I normally want. :)
9. Anything make you queasy or sick?: No, but I do have an extraordinary sense of smell lately.
10. Gender?: I think once I know, it will all seem more real! A little less than 3 weeks left now! Hooray!
11. Labor signs?: No
12. Symptoms?: Wearing maternity clothes! YAY! And being hungry...
13. Belly button in or out?: In
14. Wedding rings on or off?: On
15. Happy or moody most of the time?: I am feeling really happy this week! Feeling and looking pregnant, and loving the fall weather. I am really looking forward to Christmastime now too!
16. Looking forward to most?: Our doctor's appointment on Friday! Next weekend, we don't have any big plans either, so I am looking forward to just being with my sweet husband.

Happy Halloween from our porch!

Waiting for Baby V: Seriously Sixteen Weeks!

Now I know it seems that each week, I say that I think I am starting to look pregnant, but this week I REALLY am! I have graduated to mostly maternity pants and shirts, and some of the things I thought I could wear are definitely not working for me. Boo. I feel better when I wear maternity clothes anyways, since it makes me looks more pregnant and not just "chubby".
This week, we were in the OU Alumni Band for Homecoming, and we had such a good time with our friends Lindsey, Kim, and Joy! Now I can tell our bean that it once marched with the OU band! It was pretty tiring, but not as bad as I thought. The scariest parts were when we were waiting to go out at half time, and the football players kept getting way to close to our sideline! And I also counter-marched through the drumline, which was a new and loud experience for me. There was no playing when I passed them! While remembering old times with a small piece of our old group, we also created new memories and realized that no matter how much time and distance we are apart, we can always pick up where we left off. And one of my favorites from this weekend is when the flute section included us in the re-warm "HUH!"s that Kim invented when we were there. So much fun!

It meant a lot to be able to do it this year too, because it was Ashley's senior year, and Mr. Brian Britt's last year of 12. Being part of The Pride has been one of the best decisions Chris and I ever made, and most of that is due to how incredible of a person Mr. Britt is. He has so much integrity, humility, and has the ability to make everyone feel like a valuable person. There will be a huge hole in the OU family, but I am so happy that he has chosen to make more time for his family. I respect him even more for this decision - he is truly one of the greatest people I know. The tradition of The Pride will continue on, and I am forever grateful to have been part of such an amazing organization!

And on to the pregnant news!
1. Total weight gain: +11 lbs total now... that means 3 this week! Oh dear...
2. Maternity clothes?: Yep! Though the maternity stuff is slightly large on me, they are so much more comfortable than my regular clothes. Just sad that I can't wear some of my old stuff!
3. Stretch marks?: No...Hoping I can make it through without new ones!
4. Sleep?: Tossing and turning, but overall feeling rested when I wake-up. No hip pain this week, but lower back pain for sure!
5. Best moment this week?: Marching in the OU Alumni Band! It was fun and not too exhausting, and we also got to spend time with old friends!
6. Miss anything?: Again, my current wardrobe fitting. Finding new things to wear is getting trickier and trickier.
7. Movement?: No
8. Food cravings?: Cheese and sweets! Vegetables aren't as bad as they have been too, but I certainly don't crave them.
9. Anything make you queasy or sick?: Nothing out of the ordinary for me anymore
10. Gender?: Wanting to know so bad!!! But then we will be in big trouble too...Especially at Target!
11. Labor signs?: No
12. Symptoms?: Wearing maternity clothes, lower back pain, need for some updates on the bra situation
13. Belly button in or out?: In
14. Wedding rings on or off?: On
15. Happy or moody most of the time?: Happy! Except nervous about the weight gain this week, which makes me a bit grumpy.
16. Looking forward to most?: Hmmm...This week my Dad is coming to visit! So I am excited about that for sure! And the cooler weather that is to come this week too!

Hope you all have a great week, and thank you for reading!

16. Looking forward to most?: Getting stuff done on the house that we have been thinking about for a long time, ordering new doors! YAY! Next weekend is also OU Alumni Band, so I am getting excited (and nervous about the exhaustion)!

Our fall flowers and yard...I love this little house!

Waiting for Baby V: Fantastically 14 Weeks!

This week has been pretty good...I am feeling less tired overall, and much more motivated. We also had our 3rd doctor's appointment on Friday, and got to see our baby wiggle at us! It was so funny! It kept moving it's hand and mouth, and even arched it's back at us after I had to do sit ups to make it move so they could get their measurements. It is now as big as a lemon, and we will know sooner than later what we will be having. Then we can get started on the baby room, and everything else. I had hoped to have more energy to write more tonight, but I am pooped already, so I will update you on my pregnancy stats, and then hit the hay.

1. Total weight gain: +7
2. Maternity clothes?: Wore some new clothes, and finally went through the clothes some friends have let me borrow! Excited to try them out in the coming weeks!
3. Stretch marks?: No
4. Sleep?: Tossed and turned a lot this week, with Chris being out of town. I also started having hip and tail bone pain, but got a few new pillows, some exercise, and am feeling much better! Finally slept hard these past two nights...
5. Best moment this week?: Seeing our tiny bean wiggle and wave at us at our ultrasound on Friday. We also made our next appointments, which means we'll find out what the gender of "it" will be very soon!
6. Miss anything?: I miss having endless amounts of energy. That's the main thing this week!
7. Movement?: No
8. Food cravings?: Comfort and warm foods :)
9. Anything make you queasy or sick?: Just thinking about random gross things that anyone else would have an aversion to...
10. Gender?: Still don't know but making plans for our ultrasound and gender reveal party! YAY!
11. Labor signs?: No
12. Symptoms?: Hip and tail bone pain/aching, and not sleeping as soundly as I like to. And wearing maternity clothes!
13. Belly button in or out?: In
14. Wedding rings on or off?: On
15. Happy or moody most of the time?: Happy now that it is fall, I am wearing maternity clothes, and knowing when we will know what little bean will be.
16. Looking forward to most?: Fall BREAK!!! Spending time getting things done, having fun with friends and family, and enjoying all things fall!

Goodnight sweet friends and family! I love you all!

Waiting for Baby V...13 Weeks!

This week has had its ups and downs, but ended really wonderfully with a weekend of Chris and me. We slept in, ate delicious breakfasts, watched TV, went to the mall, bought mums and pumpkins for the porch, cleaned the house (not exactly fun, but fun to have the clean house), put up fall decorations, made chili, made french dip sandwiches, had dinner with good friends, saw "Hotel Transylvania", drank some warm Starbucks drinks, and just relaxed. I love the rain this weekend, and the feeling of cooler weather, which reminds me that fall is just about here... Hooray!

I've decided to ask all those momma friends out there a question each week about something that I've needed advice on. So, what are the best maternity pants you all have found and why?

And here's the latest news with Baby V!

1. Total weight gain: +7
2. Maternity clothes?: Yes, but mostly by choice. They make me look actually pregnant, not just chubby! :) Wore a dress and a shirt this week, and with cooler temps in the forecast, I'm looking forward to wearing more!
3. Stretch marks?: Nopey
4. Sleep?: Allergies are better, but started tossing and turning a lot at night. Overall, I am feeling more lively and less sleepy.
5. Best moment this week?: Hearing the baby's heartbeat at a mid-week check to satisfy my nerves.
6. Miss anything?: Coffee, soda, wine this week too... Wah wah...
7. Movement?: No
8. Food cravings?: Warm comfort foods...Chili, pot roast, french dips...And candy still too!
9. Anything make you queasy or sick?: Not really! Hooray!
10. Gender?: Boy or girl...Hmmm...
11. Labor signs?: No
12. Symptoms?: Tired and hungry still...what else is new?
13. Belly button in or out?: In
14. Wedding rings on or off?: On
15. Happy or moody most of the time?: Happy! Getting into the swing of school (maybe), seeing the first signs of fall, and this weekend we got to relax all weekend! Ahhhhh...
16. Looking forward to most?: Doctor's appointment this Friday, with testing and hopefully another ultrasound. AND FALL!!!
